China's Minister of Commerce Wang Wentao met with a delegation led by Rajesh Subramaniam, board chair of the US-China Business Council (USCBC), in Beijing on Wednesday, during which he urged the US to work in the same direction with China to maintain the stable, healthy, and sustainable development of China-US economic and trade relations.
Wang said that facts have proven that China-US economic and trade relations have weathered storms, and the two sides remain important economic and trade partners. "Decoupling" and "breaking the supply chain" will not work, and equal dialogue and consultation are the key to resolving differences.
Wang said that under the guidance of the two heads of state, China and the US have reached the Geneva consensus and the London framework, and the trade and economic teams of China and the US held trade talks in Stockholm over the past two days. It is hoped that the US will work in the same direction with China to maintain the stable, healthy, and sustainable development of China-US economic and trade relations, Wang said.
The minister also said that opening-up is China's fundamental national policy, China's door to opening up will only open wider, and its policy on utilizing foreign investment has not changed and will not change.
China's consumer market remains among the largest in the world, with tremendous growth potential and innovative vitality. China welcomes companies from all countries, including US companies, to invest in China and share development opportunities, Wang noted.
Subramaniam said the USCBC is pleased to see the economic and trade teams of the two governments maintain dialogue and achieve positive results. China has sent a positive signal to the world that it will further deepen reform and persist in opening up, boosting market confidence. The USCBC and its member companies are committed to long-term development in China and will do their utmost to play a constructive role in expanding China-US economic and trade cooperation, he said, according to a statement from the Chinese Commerce Ministry.
